Best of Dallas off to a hot start

Voting for everything that makes the Dallas area great began May 11th on our partner's website WFAA.com. Already we've received more than 15,000 votes and tons of great recommendations from local consumers. Back Country Bar-B-Q is in a barn burner with the competition for best barbecue. Customers recommend you choose your choice of fire sauce carefully, and Jersey Mike's Subs is representing in the Lone Star State by fighting it out for the number 1 sandwich shop spot. Customers recommend the cheese bread...

It's all here. From barbecue to wedding photographers, WFAA is cooking up the best of the Dallas area. If you've been to Dallas or if you're visiting soon, check it out.

Wear it with pride...

Today, CityVoter launched the CityVoter Store where business owners who are nominated to compete in CityVoter local contests will have the opportunity to order and customize t-shirts that help them get out the vote. To get started, we've made these shirts available in a few test markets and with 4 designs: 1) A nominee shirt 2) A vote for us shirt 3) A winner's shirt and 4) a custom quote t shirt where business owners can wear quotes from their customers.

We hope this is a fun way to continue the friendly competition in our cities across the country. If we see huge demand for shirts...we'll cook up "best of" sneakers. Seriously :-)

More than 1,000,000 photos of local businesses

Holy cow. Jeremy (our director of technology) just informed me that we have passed a major milestone for CityVoter. We now have more than 1,000,000 photos that have been uploaded onto our website (that's a lot of data). Makes me nostalgic since I used to run around Boston with a digital camera taking photos to get our website started. Here's one of the first photos I took:

That news and number is unbelievable. Thank you to all the business owners and customers who have taken time to share what makes their city great. That's a huge number that we look forward to growing.

CityVoter.com facelift...

Big step forward for CityVoter today as we rolled out our new branding across our website. The new clean look is designed to help connect people who have voted with each other through recommendations and best of lists. Over the next few weeks, more enhancements will be released that do a better job of pulling together our "best of" lists from around the country.

Exciting stuff. Check it out, and let me know what you think. Business owners should love the new media gallery view of their business and really take advantage to upload great photos.

Where should I take Mom on Mother's Day?

This time of year, clueless men grope for suggestions on where to take their wives and mothers for Mother's Day. CityVoter has collected more than 3 million votes, and we've determined winners in categories that will prove quite useful this weekend. We have best brunch locations, best jewelry, best florist, and more.

I had some fun (depressing really) using our CityVoter guides to create the ideal spoil Mom this weekend plan. Fortunately, I've got a lower cost (read thoughtful) plan to keep me out of the dog house. It will most definitely flop, and she'll say, "You see that day you planned on CityVoter...that's what you should've done. Who wants to mow the lawn and watch baseball?"
